EV Charger App Setup Guide for Ireland: Configure Scheduled Charging in 15 Minutes

Your new EV charger is installed — now configure the app to charge on the night rate and save €400–€700 per year. This guide covers the setup process for all major charger brands sold in Ireland.

Getting the Most from Your New EV Charger

Installing the charger is only half the job. Without proper app configuration, you are likely charging at the wrong time and paying far more than you need to. Irish EV owners who charge on a standard domestic tariff without scheduling pay approximately 30–35 c/kWh. Those on a smart EV night tariff with scheduled charging pay 12–15 c/kWh. For 15,000 km/year of driving, the difference is €500–€900 per year.

This guide walks you through app setup and scheduled charging configuration for each of the major EV charger brands sold in Ireland — Easee, Wallbox Pulsar Plus, MyEnergi Zappi, and Ohme.

Before You Start: What You Need

Before opening the app, have these ready:

  1. Your Wi-Fi network name and password (SSID and password for your home router)
  2. Your night-rate tariff window — e.g., “Electric Ireland Night Boost runs 23:00 to 08:00” or “Bord Gáis EV Tariff overnight window is 23:00–07:00”. Check your tariff documentation or supplier’s website.
  3. Your target daily charge level — most manufacturers recommend 80% for daily use (extends battery life); 100% for days when you need maximum range.
  4. Your usual departure time — when do you typically leave for work or first use the car?

App Setup: Easee One

Download: “Easee” (iOS App Store or Google Play)

Step 1: Create Account Open the Easee app → tap “Create Account” → enter your email, create a password, verify via the confirmation email sent to your inbox.

Step 2: Add Your Charger Tap the “+” button → “Add Charger” → enter the charger’s serial number (found on the charger data plate or in the installation documentation your electrician provided) → follow the Bluetooth pairing process (keep your phone near the charger for initial pairing).

Step 3: Connect to Wi-Fi In the charger settings: tap your charger → Settings → Wi-Fi → scan for networks → select your home network → enter password. The charger indicator light will confirm connection (typically solid white/green when connected).

Step 4: Set a Charging Schedule In the Easee app: tap your charger → Schedules → Add Schedule → set:

  • Days: Monday–Friday (or every day)
  • Start time: 23:00 (or whenever your night rate begins — check your tariff)
  • Stop time: 07:00 (or before your usual departure)

When you plug in your car, it will not start charging until the scheduled start time — regardless of what time you plug in. You can override this manually by tapping “Start Charging” in the app if you need an immediate charge.

Step 5: Configure Charge Level (via Car) Most scheduled charging limits (e.g., stop at 80%) are set in the car’s own settings, not in the charger app. In your car’s infotainment or EV settings, look for “Charging limit” or “AC charge limit” and set to 80% for daily use.

App Setup: Wallbox Pulsar Plus

Download: “myWallbox” (iOS or Google Play)

Step 1: Create Account Open myWallbox → tap “Register” → enter email and create password → verify email.

Step 2: Add Your Charger Tap “Add a charger” → select your Pulsar Plus model → use Bluetooth to pair (phone near the charger) → enter the charger’s serial number (found on the unit).

Step 3: Connect to Wi-Fi In charger settings → Wi-Fi → select your network → enter password. The LED ring on the charger will indicate connection status (solid white = connected).

Step 4: Set a Charge Schedule In myWallbox: tap your charger → “Schedule” → “Add Schedule” → configure:

  • Repeat: daily or weekdays only
  • Start time: your night-rate start (e.g., 23:00)
  • End time: your night-rate end (e.g., 07:00)

The schedule prevents charging outside the window unless manually overridden.

Step 5: Eco-Smart Mode (Optional) In myWallbox, you can enable “Eco-Smart” mode, which adjusts the scheduling based on renewable energy availability data. This is supplementary to the basic schedule — configure the basic night-rate schedule first.

App Setup: MyEnergi Zappi

Download: “myenergi” (iOS or Google Play)

The Zappi requires an myenergi Hub device (connected to your router) for app connectivity. Your installer should have set this up. If not, the Hub plugs into your router and pairs with the Zappi wirelessly.

Step 1: Create Account Open the myenergi app → “Register” → enter email, create password, confirm.

Step 2: Add Your Hub “Add device” → select “Hub” → scan the QR code on your Hub device → the app connects to the Hub which should already be paired with your Zappi.

Step 3: Confirm Zappi is Showing Your Zappi should appear in the app dashboard. Tap it to see current status (mode, charge rate, solar contribution if solar is installed).

Step 4: Set Charging Mode for Solar Homes If you have solar PV: set the Zappi to Eco+ mode during the day. This charges from solar surplus only. In the app: tap Zappi → Mode → Eco+.

Step 5: Set a Night Boost Timer To ensure the car is topped up from the grid overnight if solar has not fully charged it: In the app: tap Zappi → Boost → Timer. Set:

  • Boost to: your target charge level (e.g., 80%)
  • Time: 00:30 (30 minutes after midnight — within your night rate window)
  • The Zappi will charge from the grid at the boost rate from this time if the battery has not already reached target

Step 6: For Non-Solar Homes Set the Zappi to Fast mode with a charging schedule. In the app: tap Zappi → Boost → Timer → configure as described above. Set to Fast mode overnight.

App Setup: Ohme Home Pro

Download: “Ohme” (iOS or Google Play)

Step 1: Create Account Open Ohme app → “Sign Up” → enter email and create password → verify.

Step 2: Pair Your Charger Tap “Add Charger” → select Home Pro → Bluetooth pair (phone near the charger) → the app may ask for the charger serial number.

Step 3: Connect to Wi-Fi In charger settings: select Wi-Fi → choose your network → enter password.

Step 4: Set Departure Time Ohme’s interface centres on your departure time rather than explicit scheduling windows:

  • Tap “Settings” → “Smart Charging” → “Set Departure Time”: e.g., 08:00
  • The Ohme calculates backward from 08:00 to determine when to start charging to reach your target level during your night-rate window

Step 5: Enter Your Tariff Information In “Electricity Tariff” settings: manually enter your tariff’s night-rate window (e.g., 23:00–08:00) and rate (e.g., 13 c/kWh). This enables the Ohme to display accurate cost estimates and optimise within your specified window.

For Octopus Energy Ireland customers: select Octopus from the tariff list — automatic integration applies.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

Charger not connecting to Wi-Fi

  • Ensure your phone is on the same Wi-Fi network (2.4 GHz, not 5 GHz — most EV chargers only connect to 2.4 GHz)
  • Move the router or install a Wi-Fi extender if the charger location has poor signal
  • Try resetting the charger’s Wi-Fi settings (typically via a long press on the device or through Bluetooth)

Car not charging at scheduled time

  • Check the car’s own charge port door is unlatched (some cars prevent charging until commanded)
  • Confirm the schedule is correctly saved (restart the app and re-open the schedule)
  • Check the car’s own scheduled charging settings — some cars (Tesla, BMW) have their own built-in schedule that may conflict with the charger’s schedule. Disable the car-side schedule and use the charger app schedule.

App shows charger offline

  • The charger has lost Wi-Fi connection. Re-enter Wi-Fi credentials in charger settings via Bluetooth.
  • Check if your router has changed its password or SSID.

Charging too slowly

  • Check the car’s current limit setting (some cars can be set to limit AC charge rate to 8A or 16A in their settings for battery health)
  • Confirm the cable rating if using an untethered charger (a 16A cable limits to 3.7 kW)

A Note on Car-Side Scheduling

Many modern EVs (Tesla, Hyundai, Kia, VW ID series) have their own built-in charging schedules — set via the car’s infotainment system. If you use both the car’s schedule and the charger’s schedule, they may conflict (one trying to charge when the other is blocking).

The simplest approach: use one scheduling system only. Either:

  • Disable the car’s built-in schedule and use the charger app schedule
  • Disable the charger schedule and use the car’s built-in schedule (setting the charger to always-on)

Both work equally well. The charger app schedule is often more convenient because it is accessible without sitting in the car.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Ohme app has the smoothest user experience for scheduled night-rate charging. The Wallbox myWallbox app is also highly rated. The Easee app is reliable but has had occasional update issues. The myenergi app is functional but less polished — better suited to users who want solar diversion control.
Yes — provided the charger is connected to Wi-Fi and the app is logged in, you can start, stop, and change schedules from anywhere with internet access. This is useful for adjusting schedules when your routine changes.
No — leave the car plugged in. Modern EVs do not charge continuously once full. The charger will stop at the target charge level (or when the session schedule ends), and the car will remain plugged in without drawing power until you drive away.
Override the schedule in the charger app by tapping ‘Start Charging Now’ or ‘Boost’. This charges immediately at full rate regardless of the schedule, using daytime grid electricity. You can also set a one-off departure time in the Ohme app to override the standard schedule for a specific day.
No — the charging schedule is stored on the charger itself (not just in the app). Once configured, the charger operates its schedule autonomously. The app is only needed to change settings or monitor sessions. You can close the app entirely after setup.
